Knauss holds the District 12 record in diving for 11 dives with a score of 490.15, set in 2011. He has represented the Prep at the PIAA State Championships each of his first three years.  As a sophomore Logan cracked the top ten, finishing 9th in the state.

Taggart Series: Alexandra Robbins at St. Joseph's Prep

Noted author Alexandra Robbins will be at St. Joseph's Prep on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m., as part of the Taggart Cultural Events Series. Robbins, the author of The Overachievers and The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth, will discuss the pressures that teens face to succeed.

The New York Times wrote about Robbins: "Ms. Robbins has built her career giving voice and shape to the lives of teenagers.... Their stories beautifully demonstrate things we know intrinsically: that being popular is not always the same as being liked, that high school is more rigid and conformist than the military, and that the people who are excluded and bullied for their offbeat passions and refusal to conform are often the ones who are embraced and lauded for those very qualities in college and beyond — what Ms. Robbins has dubbed Quirk Theory."

Robbins first moved into the media spotlight with her book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, which examined the sorority culture prevalent on many campuses.

No Place for Hate

After Mass on September 11, the Prep celebrated its designation as No Place for Hate having completed a year of anti-bias and anti-bullying programs. Carly Feldman, No Place for Hate Assistant Project Director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), attended the mass and presented us with our official designation banner.

The Prep earned this designation by partaking in a series of projects that promote respect for differences and challenge hate and bias. Students and faculty participated in “Purple Day,” where they wore purple to commemorate the lives of those who had committed suicide after being bullied for their perceived or actual sexual orientation. Students also heard from actor and psychologist Michael Fowlin, whose one-man show deals with issues of race, discrimination, violence prevention, personal identity, suicide, gender equity, homophobia, and the emotional pain felt by special education children. During Black History Month, students, parents and Prep alumni were invited to a special presentation celebrating the work and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. geared towards inspiring students to continue his legacy of social justice. Our faculty and staff also participated in ADL’s A World Of Difference Institute training to gain knowledge and tools to combat and prevent bullying and bias in their school.

This is the first year that we have received this designation and we are one of approximately 160 schools across the state participating in the program, following Governor Ed Rendell’s endorsement in 2006.
